A Holiday Memory

October 12th, 2008

I fell in love with it the first time I laid eyes on it in the box of junk. I was at a garage sale on the holidays when I saw the gold pocket watch with long chunky chain attached. On the front cover was an embossed picture of the Australian coat of arms. Then on the back written in tiny letters was: ‘use this watch well’ and that was it. Inside the hands weren’t ticking past the black numbers, it was stuck on 5:25. I fumbled in my wallet for the 60c, and slowly stumbled to the lady. She took the money and gave me a very strange grin; it looked as if she were warning me of something. I sprinted all the way home without stopping; I hoped that mum liked it as much as I did. Once at home I slid the battery into the back under the writing and slowly turned the knob around so the face showed the real time: 5:25 and date: 12th. Without warning my entire bedroom began to shake, the ground split in two right between my legs. The gap got too big between my legs and I plummeted down and down, but I couldn’t stop myself.

I woke in a daze. Then I saw that I was lying in a huge nest. It was made with great care and was filled with feathers, sticks and rubble. Sitting right next to me were two large oval eggs. The eggs were both the same size as me. That’s when I really began to worry now. I staggered to my feet. I cautiously moved to the side of the nest and peered over. The nest was so high off the ground it made me sick to look. My head when dizzy and I started to get sweaty palms. Any minute now the mother bird would be back to care for her eggs, she would definitely not like to see me here. I felt around for my pocket watch. All I could feel were the rocks and feathers. It hit me like a pile of bricks, the only reason I am here is because of that watch. If I had lost it, I was toast. I would never see anyone I knew again. Needless to say, I had to find that pocket watch. It was my ticket out of here. Something caught my eye, out on the same tree limb that I was on, it was my watch. I put my fear away and stood. Slowly I started to walk to the other side of the huge nest. My next step was to climb over the side and balance to the end. I was over the side. My arms went out to the side and started to shake, they were putting me off balance. I put my foot down the side of the branch and slid it like a snake along the side. It took me what felt like 20 minutes to reach the end of the branch. It was starting to get thin now and probably couldn’t hold my weight. I slowly lay down and reached out in front of me. I had the watch. It was cold between my two fingers and sent a chill up my back. The chill made me shake, I lost my balance and fell of the branch. Down and down I fell. I saw the time 5:25 and the date was: 13th. I had been gone all night, mum must be really worried I thought.

This time when I woke I was lying on my soft bed. Everything was here, my super hero quilt cover, all my toys…but there was no watch. I searched all over. Nothing. So my weirdest and exciting holiday and I have no proof of what happened. But none of that matters o me now. It’s a memory now, but one that will be there forever.

My Holidays

October 6th, 2008

I am sure that everyone out there has had at least one holiday where they do nothing much. Well that is just like the one I had. Everyone that I knew went somewhere. Most out of my state. So I got rather bored. But there was one highlight. I went to the Melbourne Zoo for a day. There were so many animals that I had only ever seen in pictures, but there they were staring me in the face. We saw animals from all over the world. Some were monkeys, meerkats, elephants, zebras, giraffes and some very exotic birds. By the way, that is just the start of the list!!

So for anyone who has never been to the Melbourne Zoo, I would highly recommend it. It is a great day spent outside looking at animals that you may never see anywhere else so close to home.

Till next time enjoy.

6 Word Stories

September 19th, 2008

In our english class we got shown some 6 word stories and given the task to create our own. One good example is:

For sale: baby shoes, never worn-by Ernest Hemingway

The baby’s blood type? Human, mostly.
- Orson Scott Card

Dinosaurs return. Want their oil back.
- David Brin

Bang postponed. Not Big enough. Reboot.
- David Brin

I used this basis for my story,

For sale: one heart been broken

Australia Poem

September 18th, 2008

The jetty reeks as I advance slowly,

I can see the still water between the gaps,

A sea breeze sends chills down my spine,

I love a pristine beach.

I scrap my toes in the sand,

Crabs scurry for their lives,

The warm sand is stuck between my toes,

I love a pristine beach.

I glance up at the sky,

Sea gulls circle aimlessly,

Clouds go by in a daze,

I love a pristine beach.

Best Friends Poem

September 18th, 2008

If there is a moment hard to forget

That is the day when you and I met

I even know what is the date

The day when we were classmates

I bear in mind that time

When we say to each other “HI”

It’s hard to believe but it’s true

That time you became part of my life

I wish that we will share everything

Problems, tears and even laughter

I hope and pray that it won’t end

Coz if that happened, you can see me crying

When I had a problem

You are the one whom I can lean on

When I’m mad and lonely

You were there to cheer me up

Don’t worry even when were apart

You will remain in my heart

I’ll always cherish the days we spent

Coz it’s the day when we became

BEST OF FRIENDS

Have you ever had a class project to do? I will guess you have and I was put in this situation. We had to present a poem that we had found in our English class. Most people chose an oral reading, a song or a play, I wanted something different…So i came up with a blog. Here i will regularly write about school, my school work and other interesting things in my life. So keep reading bloggers……
